The Trip

Introduction.

In June 2013 I'm travelling with my wife Lynda to the United States, initially for a conference in Philadelphia and then for a holiday in New York City. This is a blog about that trip.

The trip is now finished, and these are closing comments

I'm booked to leave Perth on Qantas flight QF568 in the early hours of Sunday the 16th June, then to Sydney and New York City.

I have tickets on a shuttle bus to Penn Station, then train to Philadelphia to stay at the Sofitel Philadelphia, on South 17th Street.

The conference is held by the National Association of College and University Attorneys, a large association of lawyers in the higher education sector. I'm attending as President of the Society of University Lawyers (Australia) along with several other Australian university lawyers.

The conference is at the Marriott hotel and starts Tuesday the 18th June to Saturday the 22nd June.

The conference was very valuable, and updates on legal issues exactly pertinent to escalated problems in all Universities demonstrated global trends; the tl;dr are intellectual property governance, explosions in bullying claims and intrusive government oversight.

After the conference, I'm taking annual leave and after a train back to New York City check into an apartment in West Village. It's in Hudson Street, in the "meat packing district".

The property was fine for three weeks, in an interesting neighbourhood. New York was an excellent destination for art, good food, architecture and theatre. Highlights were the Frick Collection, Bouley Restaurant, the New York cityscape and off-Broadway theatre.

We leave NYC on Sunday the 14th July at 7pm on Qantas flight 108 and it's back via Sydney, arriving back at Perth on Tuesday the 16th July at 1pm.
